Chairman's message

Dear Herzlians

I feel incredibly honoured to be reporting to you as Chairman of the UNITED HERZLIA SCHOOLS. I would like to thank the immediate past Chair, Brian Goldberg for his tireless commitment to HERZLIA and our community and for the support and encouragement he has given me personally. Brian has served our school well and I look forward to his continued support during my term.

Tanya Golan has been appointed to serve as the deputy Chairperson, with Bernard Osrin as the Treasurer. I wish them a special mazaltov and I look forward to working closely with them. The UHS committee is the coming together of our professional team of educators with passionate and dedicated lay leaders. Together we will deal with all of the challenges our school will face and ensure our school continues to deliver at the highest level.
During this year we will be celebrating our 70th Anniversary and I trust we will all participate in the fantastic events that are being organised. We have so much to be proud of and this is the year for us to celebrate our successes and acknowledge the achievements of all those that came before us and, at the same time, to look forward to the future. It is a time to reconnect with the incredible role HERZLIA has played and continues to play in educating our children, ensuring they have a pride in our Jewish heritage and a love of learning.

The Board has a massive responsibility, and we intend to deal with the many issues that face our school. We are aware of the tough economic climate and the ever increasing cost of education and we intend to grow the Foundation to ensure that no Jewish child is denied a Jewish education. At the same time, under the guidance of our Director of Education – Geoff Cohen and his highly experienced and competent team of educators, we will continue to look at different programmes and put in place the correct structures to ensure we are able to attract and retain the best educators available in order to deliver on our commitment to academic excellence.

We have identified 4 main areas of our school - Judaica, Academics, Sport, Arts and Culture and are in the process of forming sub- committees to focus specifically on each of these key areas.

These sub-committees will be tasked with creating the mission and strategies to improve on delivery and ensure the programmes remain relevant and true to our values of excellence and inclusion. I look forward to communicating with you on the progress we make as these plans develop.
Finally, I wish to thank our teachers and staff under the leadership of Geoff Cohen and David Ginsberg for all of the effort they have put in this past term. Without their dedication and commitment to our children’s education , HERZLIA would not be what it is today.

I wish you all a fantastic break and may we all return energised by a successful 2010 World Cup.

Sincerely

GARY NATHAN
CHAIRMAN
UNITED HERZLIA SCHOOLS
June 2010
